Fifteen years of the Spanish patient safety strategy: pitfalls & lessons learned
Quality & Safety network
The next webinar scheduled on 20 April at 15.00 CET will describe the pitfalls and lessons learned of the Spanish Patient safety Strategy.
The Spanish patient safety Strategy has been developed since 2006 and was updated for the period 2015-2020. A network was established under the umbrella of the strategy including the Spanish Health Regions, the Scientific Societies, patients and other stakeholders.
Specific safety programs are being developed within the framework of the strategy. The evaluation of the data shows some successful results in some of the programs with high variability among regions and health centers. The deployment of the strategy at regional level, established networks and a better knowledge about the patient safety problems at national level are among the main enablers. The scarce involvement and leadership of some managers, the lack of a national patient safety law and lately the SARS-CoV2 pandemic are among the the main barriers to improve patient safety culture.
The objectives of the webinar are to:
- Present the main results of the Spanish Patient safety Strategy
- Reflect on the facilitators and barriers encountered
- Discuss the ongoing lessons
