The project to translate the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) Open School was started by the University of UCLouvain and continued by PAQS. The objective of this project is to provide Brussels and Walloon hospitals with several modules of the Open school in French. These modules allow hospitals to use reliable and useful tools to develop improvement initiatives on quality of care and patient safety.
IHI Open School
The IHI Open School was developed to stimulate quality improvement and to teach patient safety skills to the new generations of healthcare professionals. More than 1.1 million students, professors and professionals are part of the interprofessional community of the IHI Open School. This community consists of working groups with representatives from more than 60 countries. The IHI Open School is an e-learning platform consisting of more than 20 online modules developed by globally recognized experts. The topics covered are:
- Patient safety
- Skills and competences for quality improvement
- Patient-Centered Care
- Quality, cost and value in care
- The triple aim of the IHI for the population
In order to strengthen the impact of the Open School, more than 190 universities report that they integrate the lessons in their courses and 65 indicate that successfully achieving the modules is required to obtain the diploma. About 445 care institutions use the modules to form their staff. The certificate applies as formal recognition of participation and as evidence for the employer for the achievement of at least 16 modules.
